Psyko Newz: West Palm Beach Captain Gets DUI

A West Palm Beach fire captain was taken into custody on DUI charges after police say he was driving 85 mph in a 35 mph zone, WPTV-Ch. 5 reports.

According to a North Palm Beach police report, an officer in a marked patrol car spotted Rick Curtis in his red Dodge SUV speeding northbound on U.S. 1 around 1:28 a.m. Monday.

Police say that as Curtis’ vehicle approached two other vehicles operating at the 35-mph speed limit, he swerved to avoid hitting them and narrowly missed a raised concrete median.

A police officer said he pulled Curtis over and noticed a “very strong, overpowering odor” of alcohol. According to the report, before the officer was able to advise Curtis of the reason for the stop, Curtis produced his fire-rescue identification and asked, “Why are you pulling me over?”

The officer then asked Curtis to exit the vehicle to perform a field sobriety check. Police say Curtis refused and demanded to see the sergeant.

According to the report, the police officer then opened the driver’s side door and noted that as Curtis exited the vehicle, the firefighter almost fell to the ground.

According to the police report, Curtis admitted that he had been drinking since 7 p.m., but said that he had only three to four beers. The arresting officer stated in his report that Curtis grew increasingly belligerent, saying that “all North Palm cops are racists” and “I know a lot of cops, and you better watch yourself.”

Curtis was taken to the Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Breath Alcohol Testing Center.

A spokesman for the city of West Palm Beach said Curtis has reported the incident to the fire chief.

Watch this video taken from a court house in Maricopa County, AZ. At about 0:35 one of the deputies providing security for the court house casually strolls over to the defense attorney’s table and starts reading her documents. While the defense attorney is speaking to the judge, he sneakily signals a fellow officer to come over. He tells the other officer he is gonna hand him one of the defenses legal documents to go make copies and slickly take it from the defense attorney’s files (which is illegal). After the 2nd officer goes to find a copy machine, the only person in the court room to notice, which was the inmate/defendant himself, speaks up and tells his attorney about it. The judge tries to play it off like she didn’t see but watch towards the end when the 2nd deputy comes back with the document. The judge says she wants to discuss it in private and reschedules the court hearing; obviously she wants to talk away from audio and visual recording equipment since SHE is responsible for what goes on in her court. AND JUSTICE FOR ALL!!! NOT.
